Helpful Hints for a Smooth Sitting
- Clothing
- The focus of any portrait is the face. Avoid heavy patterns, high contrast patterns or 'loud' colors. Earth tones give a soft look that will give your portrait 'warmth'. For groups, try to keep all subjects in the same range; i.e. all dark or all light tones. Long sleeves add formality to a portrait. V-necks will give a slimming appearance to the face. Dark colors also lend to a more slender subject.
- Hair & Makeup
- Hair should be trimmed neatly, but avoid the 'freshly cut' look. A trim 3-7 days in advance of your sitting will allow your hair to relax into a more natural set. Makeup should be applied smoothly, alowing a natural skintone to show through. Even male subjects can benefit from a light application of makeup.
- Eyeglasses
- It is difficult to avoid glare when subjects are wearing glasses. If your lenses are easily popped out, do so. If not, your optician should be able to provide you with a pair of frames without lenses.
- Personal Props
- Personal items such as sporting equipment and awards or a child's favorite toy will make your portrait unique. If in doubt about a particular prop, consult with our professional staff.
